We know you have a big change coming up with your move! There are great things ahead - we promise! Here are a few tips that you can follow and ideas to have some fun during your move:

Ask to pack your own room

Packing your own room has many benefits! You can choose what you want to bring with you, and go through things you may not need any longer. When you give away items you don’t need, you’ll have less work to do with packing. Packing your own room might also lead to a fun trip down memory lane. There are probably a few fun things in your room that you forgot you owned. You can also donate your items you no longer need or give some of your things to your friends to have as a memory of you.

Make a list of all of the things you want to do before you leave

Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Create a list of all the friends you want to see before you move, and visit them (but remember you still can keep in touch!)
  2. Take a last trip to your favorite restaurants, ice cream stores, or coffee shops
  3. Go to your favorite local hangouts (beach, park or mall) or even the sports fields you used to play on
  4. Take pictures in front of your favorite places, and of your house so you can remember it later

Now, make a list of all the things you want to do in your new city (or research before you get there)!

  1. Search for the best pizza, ice cream, and favorite restaurants in town
  2. Visit your new school’s Instagram to learn all about it
  3. What is your new city known for? Research favorite sights and things to see
  4. Where is your new house near? Look on maps to see what’s around you
  5. If you play a sport, check out the local fields, arenas, or stadiums
  6. Check out the pro sports teams that might be in the area

And...it’s ok to feel upset.

Moving is stressful, even for adults.  Your feelings are normal, feeling overwhelmed is normal, and it’s even normal to cry.  Take a walk, get some fresh air, or invite your best friend over to talk.  Your friend is probably sad too, so it’s good to talk with someone and share your thoughts. When you talk more about your upcoming move, you’ll feel more prepared and ready to make the next steps.

Boxes, boxes and more boxes…

You are going to have a lot of boxes.  Don’t just throw them out – use them! Here are some ideas:

  1. Make a fort
  2. Make a house, car or ship out of the cardboard
  3. Color your box with markers
  4. Keep one of your boxes for all your great memories
  5. Put your pet in your box and take a picture!  If you post your photo, don’t forget to tag @vipcompanies!
