In “Maharaja: The Splendor of India’s Royal Courts,” nearly 200 stunning treasures spanning three centuries bear witness to a period of dramatic change in India. Beginning in the early-1700s as the power of the Moghul Empire diminished, the exhibition traces the shift in political power from strong regional rulers to colonization by Great Britain, and the emergence of the modern, independent nation in 1947. “Maharaja” includes paintings and elaborate costumes, fabulous jewelry and weapons, even a golden throne. The exhibition explores the concept and evolution of kingship in India, and illuminates the public and private world of the maharajas.
VIP Transport is proud to have been chosen to haul the exhibit from the Virginia Museum of Fine Art to its current location at The Field Museum in Chicago. VIP provided three climate control vans for the highest protection of transporting the ancient fabrics, art, and jewelry. A special rigging system was used to ensure the safe arrival of the golden throne. In addition, due to the sensitivity of these treasures, three representatives from the exhibit traveled as couriers along with VIP’s drivers. The exhibit runs at the Field Museum through February 2013.
