CORONA, Calif. – VIP Transport – an agent for Mayflower Transit and a company known for its specialized transportation of fine art, museum exhibits, and priceless collections – recently delivered the Giroscopio sculpture crafted by famous Italian artist Arnaldo Pomorodo, born 1926 in Italy. Weighing approximately 20,000 pounds, the transportation of the Giroscopio required both crane and oversized load flatbed services for the delivery from Los Angeles, California to Montreal, Canada. Special permits and escorts were required to transport the celebrated piece of art, which is valued at approximately $1 million.
Pomodoro has received many awards for his sculpting, including the Lifetime Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture in 2008. His works have been on display around the world, while some of his sculptures are permanent fixtures in large cities such as Milan, Copenhagen, Brisbane, and Los Angeles. Pomodoro gained notoriety with his controversial design of a fiberglass crucifix for the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Wisconsin. The piece is topped with a 14-foot-diameter crown of thorns which hovers over the figure of Christ.
