The tour required two truckloads with dual driver teams (for expedited service) to transport the exhibit from the Montreal Museum of Fine Art in Montreal to the Dallas Museum of Art. The highly sensitive fabrics and complex animation systems required special attention during transit, and VIP Transport’s padded climate control vans provided the necessary protection for the duration of the trip.
The exhibition showcases approximately 130 ensembles from 1970 to 2010 — many of which are being shown to the pubic for the first time — with a majority coming from Gaultier’s couture line. Organized into six different thematic sections dedicated to specific influences, the exhibit features thirty animated mannequins that truly bring Gaultier’s designs to life. Also showcased are sketches, film excerpts, dance performances, and concert excerpts to illustrate the fashion legend’s irreverent, hypersexualized world. He is responsible for the iconic cone bra worn by Madonna on her Blonde Ambition Tour. Gaultier has collaborated on projects and wardrobes with the likes of filmmakers Pedro Almodóvar and Jean-Pierre Jeunet, pop star Kylie Minogue, and dancer Maurice Béjart. Fashion photography by Andy Warhol, Mario Testino, Richard Avedon, and many more never-before-seen prints will be included on the tour.
